    The Three Legged Toad

    wei | 07 February, 2010 22:52

Here's something muddy and in season with the coming Chinese New Year.

A three legged monster toad that lives for thousand years is said to be the vehicle of Chinese god of prosperity Liu Hai (Gama Sennin). It is probably the most auspicious symbol of money-making.

The legend has it that the toad lived in the muddy swamp and was responsible for the poisonous vapors which caused sickness and death before it was tamed by Liu Hai with a string of cash.

The combination of line and value shading is very appealing in this picture. The story was interesting, too. I really enjoyed your post

Awesome! The toad looks very menacing. If I ever have problems with giant poisonous toads, I will remember Liu Hai and his string of cash.

He reminds me of the poisonous Cane Toads in Queensland Australia nasty introduced species. Really nice work and great interpretation of the theme.

Such harmony. I love the dark fantastic mood of the piece and the line work.
